Gentleness, poetry, sensitivity for this multi-generational complex. Bourdeaux – Domaine des sources

We have completed 100% of the project. The co-construction workshops, the naming, the graphic charter, the interior and exterior signage, the wall decorations...   For our elders, we brought softness while helping them to find their way around thanks to colour, their monuments and poetry.   This retirement home project, a small living unit, is part of a multi-generational complex of which we will have the opportunity to present our creations for the children of the Rayon du soleil.
Mission

Transforming living spaces: The interest of decoration and plant frescoes and artistic signage in retirement homes and nursing homes

Retirement homes and EHPADs (residential establishments for dependent elderly people) and even senior residences are not only places of care, but also living spaces. For residents, families and staff, the environment plays a crucial role in the quality of daily life. The integration of plant frescoes and artistic signage in key spaces such as lobbies, family lounges, corridors, bedrooms and dining rooms is an innovative approach. These elements not only help to make these places aesthetically pleasing, but also to improve the well-being, orientation and friendliness of residents and their loved ones.

1. Plant frescoes: a bridge to nature

Plant frescoes, whether they are made with murals, relief installations or stabilized plants, bring a touch of nature to spaces often perceived as cold or impersonal.

  • Calmness and serenity : Depictions of natural landscapes, forests, or gardens soothe the mind and reduce stress. For the elderly, who may be dealing with feelings of loneliness or anxiety, these murals offer visual comfort.
  • Cognitive stimulation : Plant patterns bring back memories of walks, gardens, or landscapes enjoyed in the past, stimulating memory and conversations.
  • Warm atmosphere : A plant fresco transforms a functional space into a warm, welcoming and lively place, whether in an entrance hall, a dining room or a hallway.

2. Decorative frescoes adapted to the different spaces

Each space in a retirement home or nursing home fulfills a specific role and can be enriched by adapted frescoes:

  • In the reception halls : A large green fresco creates a positive first impression for visitors and creates a welcoming atmosphere.
  • In the family lounges : Landscapes or representations of gardens invite relaxation and encourage exchanges between residents and relatives.
  • In the corridors : Frescoes can be designed to encourage movement, for example by depicting a path or a walk, providing a playful and stimulating dimension for residents.
  • In the rooms : Custom murals, depicting calming scenes or soft plant motifs, help create a sense of comfort and privacy.
  • In the dining rooms : Frescoes depicting orchards, vineyards or vegetable gardens whet the appetite and create a friendly atmosphere around meals.

3. Artistic signage: between functionality, interior decoration and aesthetics

In an environment where wayfinding can be a challenge, especially for people with cognitive impairments, art signage plays a crucial role.

  • Facilitate orientation : Clear and visual signage, enriched with natural patterns or coloured elements, helps residents to find their way around more easily. For example, each floor can be associated with a specific color or plant pattern (flowers, trees, seasons).
  • Reduce anxiety : By making spaces more intuitive and pleasant to navigate, art signage helps reduce confusion and stress for residents.
  • Create visual coherence : Associated with the frescoes, the signage becomes an extension of the aesthetic identity of the place, reinforcing a harmonious atmosphere.

4. A positive impact on residents, families and staff

Art in retirement homes and nursing homes is not only decorative: it has a profound impact on all occupants.

For residents

  • Sensory and cognitive stimulation : Plant frescoes and artistic signage awaken the senses and curiosity.
  • Emotional comfort : These elements are reminiscent of familiar and natural environments, creating a sense of calm and security.
  • Empowerment : Thoughtful signage encourages residents to move independently and confidently.

For families

  • Warm welcome : An aesthetically pleasing and calming space puts families at ease and facilitates interactions with loved ones.
  • Increased Trust : A well-designed setting reflects the facility’s attention to the well-being of residents.

For Staff

  • Motivation and well-being : Working in a pleasant environment is beneficial for staff morale and productivity.
  • Easier tasks : Clear signage improves organization and simplifies everyday life.

5. A Commitment to Aesthetics and Humanity

The plant frescoes and artistic signage in retirement homes and nursing homes show a real commitment to improving the quality of life of residents. These initiatives go beyond the practical aspects to enrich the overall occupant experience. They show that an establishment can be both functional and profoundly human, combining care, comfort and creativity.

And finally

Integrating plant frescoes and artistic signage into retirement homes and nursing homes means rethinking these spaces as living spaces where beauty and well-being meet. These elements transform spaces that are sometimes perceived as austere into warm, stimulating and welcoming environments, adapted to the needs of residents, families and staff. In a world where nature and art are recognized for their benefits on mental and physical health, these initiatives illustrate a desire to put people at the center, making every day a more enjoyable and enriching experience for all.

The Power of Soft Colors and Nature: The Impact of Pastel Blue and Green in Nursing Homes and Nursing Homes

The environment in which we live has a direct impact on our mental, emotional and physical well-being. In retirement homes and EHPADs (residential facilities for dependent elderly people), it is particularly crucial to create soothing and stimulating spaces. The pastel blue and green colours, combined with plant frescoes and artistic signage, can transform these places into true havens of peace. In this article, we explore the power of these colors on health and the value of incorporating plant murals and aesthetic signage into lobbies, family lounges, hallways, bedrooms, and dining rooms.

1. The power of pastel blue: serenity and calm

Pastel blue is a colour that immediately evokes calm and tranquillity. Its effects are widely documented in color psychology:

  • Stress reduction : Soft shades of blue help slow the heart rate, which promotes a feeling of relaxation.
  • Sleep support : In residents’ rooms, pops of pastel blue create an environment conducive to restful rest.
  • Stimulation of concentration : In spaces such as game rooms or living rooms, blue helps to maintain soft attention without being distracting.

In a nursing home, where residents can sometimes experience anxiety or confusion, pastel blue acts as a calming color, contributing to a harmonious atmosphere.

2. The power of pastel green: connection to nature and regeneration

Pastel green, often associated with nature, evokes feelings of freshness, renewal and hope.

  • Connection to nature : Even indoors, pastel green is reminiscent of natural environments, which has a positive effect on the morale of residents.
  • Calming effect : Like blue, pastel green helps calm the mind, but it adds a dimension of vitality and well-being.
  • Gentle stimulation : Unlike brighter colors, pastel green encourages subtle energy, ideal for socializing places like family lounges or dining rooms.

Pastel green, when integrated into a plant mural, amplifies this feeling of being immersed in nature, which is especially beneficial for residents who cannot move around easily outside.
